X-knife
[Brief Introduction]
Taking advantage of the biological action of ionizing
radiation, X-Knife combines the stereotactic technique and the unique
technique of beam limitation (controlling and limiting the beam
orientation and energy). Through image guidance, beams are focused
by precise computer-aided localization and delivered to the target.
Since the beams are as sharp as scalpels, the device is called X-Knife.
[Characteristics]
1) No craniotomy is needed, safe and reliable, no
bleeding or pain;
2) Especially superior in the treatment of brain
stem tumors and deep intracranial tumors;
3) Healthy tissues surrounding the target are subject
to minimum exposure. Facial paralysis is seldom observed after treatment
of acoustic neuroma with X-Knife, and hearing is not affected after
treatment;
4) It provides a very good choice to those not suitable
to receive craniotomy, such as the aged and the weak.
[Indications]
1) All kinds of non-infiltrative benign intracranial
tumors: acoustic neuroma, meningioma, hypophysoma and parenchymatous
pituitary ameloblastoma no larger than 32mm;
2) Intracranial metastasis tumor;
3) Cerebrovascular malformations and other intracranial
hemangiomas;
4) Tumor remnants of surgery;
5) Palliative treatment: benign and malignant intracranial
tumors that are non-operable and have been previously treated with
radiotherapy;
6) Brain stem tumors and deep brain tumors.
