Intensity
Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
[Brief Introduction]
Based on the practice of 3-D conformal radiation,
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) adopts the stereotactic technique.
By varying the intensity of the beams across the radiation field,
according to user specifications, doses can be precisely tailored
to the 3-D contour of the target. This means a higher and uniform
dose to target and a minimum dose to surrounding tissues.
[Indications]
1) Intracranial tumors: especially those in vital
anatomy locations and those of irregular shape, not operable or
difficult to remove by surgery;
2) Head and neck tumors: including tumor remnant
or recurrent tumors of earlier operation or conventional radiotherapy,
like rhinopharyngeal cancer and basilar region tumor;
3) Spine (spinal cord ) tumors;
4) Chest tumors: for example, mediastinal tumors,
lung cancer and chest wall tumors;
5) Tumors in digestive system, urinary system and
genital system: for example, hepatic cancer, pancreatic cancer and
prostate cancer;
6) Metastasis in any part of the human body.
